I’m attempting to override a value in my pre-save helper, similar to…

$columns['abc']['value']=1

The data type is boolean, and from what I understand this should work, however it doesn’t save the value when the field isn’t visible on the screen. Is this not allowed?

How should one go about updating this data (is a SQL update the only way?).

Did You tried simple:
